SpeechPlayer supports Windows SAPI (Speech Application Programming Interface) 5.x-compliant voices.
Windows XP includes the Microsoft Sam voice and Windows Vista includes the natural-sounding Microsoft Anna voice. Chinese language versions of Windows Vista include both Microsoft Anna (US English) and Microsoft Lili (Chinese) voices.
Getting Additional Voices
Additional voices are available for download or purchase from the following links:
- Cepstral TTS Voices for SAPI 5.1 – High quality, natural-sounding voices. Available in US English, UK English, Italian, Canadian French, German, Americas Spanish, and Character voices. Demo voices available. Recommended!
- Microsoft Lili – Chinese language voice; able to handle English text too. Available through Windows Update in the Chinese (Simplified) Language Pack. (Windows Vista Ultimate or Enterprise Edition only)
- Microsoft Anna for Windows XP – Similar to the US English voice included in Windows Vista. The voice is included in Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 and later versions.
- Microsoft Mike and Mary – US English voices – 3.5 MB. (Windows XP only – not supported on Windows Vista)
Note: For most third-party voices, exported audio files of spoken text are only for personal use. Should you need to publicly broadcast or distribute audio files generated by the text-to-speech engine, a separate audio distribution license may be required. When in doubt, please contact the vendor of the TTS voice directly.
